We’ve reached the top three! ATVL’s 3rd best starting pitcher, and highest ranked lefty, of the 2017 Valley League season is Purcellville’s Andy Crum!
The 6-foot-1, 190 pound senior from Shippensburg put up the following statline for the Cannons:
Pur | ERA | W | L | G | GS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | BAVG | WIP | BB/9 | K/9 |
2017 | 2.00 | 3 | 2 | 7 | 7 | 40.3 | 31 | 14 | 9 | 12 | 32 | 0.220 | 1.067 | 2.7 | 7.1 |
Play | 3.60 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 5.0 | 5 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 5 | 0.278 | 1.400 | 3.6 | 9.0 |
For pitchers considered for this list, Andy finished 3rd in ERA, tied for 7th in strikeouts, tied for 4th in batting average against, 3rd in WHIP, 7th in BB/9, and 9th K/9. His best start was on June 21stĀ against Winchester, when he threw 7 shutout innings while allowing 2 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 1, for a game score of 71. On July 13th, he shut out Staunton over 6 innings, while allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 7. His game score that day was 70. He was named 2nd team All-Valley after the season.
Andy has gotten better each year at Shippensburg, even while his workload has increased. Take a look:
