What was going to be a day with ten games- something I’ve never seen before in this league- ended up being a day with *only* eight, as Purcellville postponed the doubleheader with New Market. It was still a crazy day, though.
With one day left before the playoffs, here are the results from Friday’s Valley League games:
Results
- New Market 7, Charlottesville 3
- Covington 5, Purcellville 4 (10 innings): Jacks win South Division championship on Bennett Hostetler’s double.
- Strasburg 4, Front Royal 3 (7 innings) (Game 1)
- Winchester 10, Woodstock 2 (7 innings) (Game 1)
- Winchester 8, Woodstock 3 (7 innings) (Game 2)
- Front Royal 7, Strasburg 6 (8 innings) (Game 2)
- Staunton 12, Harrisonburg 2
- Waynesboro 8, Covington 4
Hitter of the Day
The hitter of the day, this long day of Valley League baseball, is obviously Winchester’s Zion Pettigrew, from Iowa! Zion had a tremendous second game of the doubleheader with Woodstock, going 3-3, with 2 runs, 6 RBIs, a double, and 2 home runs. That’s 10 total bases in only 7 innings. Zion joined the Royals on July 10th, and is slashing 324/410/588 in 34 at-bats.
