As I did a few days ago with the best playoff hitters, today we’ll look at the best playoff pitchers from each VBL team:
Charlottesville Tom Sox (6 games)
- Hunter Gregory, Old Dominion: 0.96 ERA, 0.860 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9, 11.6 K/9 in 9 1/3 innings. Hunter was on the mound in game 2 of the finals, but had to leave due to an injury.
Covington Lumberjacks (3 games)
- Chase Best (Lawson State CC): Chase fired a complete game in his only appearance in the playoffs, allowing 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and striking out 8.
Front Royal Cardinals (2 games)
- As a whole, the Cards’ staff was pummelled by New Market, but Cole Spain (Averett) threw one clean inning in relief.
Harrisonburg Turks (2 games)
- Eli Ellington (UNC Charlotte) struck out 11 batters over 6 innings in his start.
New Market Rebels (6 games)
- Ryan Andrzejczyk (Cuyahoga CC) threw 5 shutout innings with no walks and 5 K’s in his one start.
- Peyton Millirons (Wallace CC) struck out 13 in 6 1/3 relief innings, while allowing 0 hits and 6 walks. Peyton was unhittable in the finals, game 2- was pretty clearly the pitcher of the game.
- Thomas Packert (Christopher Newport) allowed only 1 earned run in 5 innings in his one start.
Purcellville Cannons (2 games)
