For full disclosure, ATVL keeps track of every single minor league start (by pitchers, right? A start on the mound.)… because, well, ATVL has no life. (I even had to put that in 3rd person because it’s a tough realization. Sometimes the truth hurts.)
Anyway, four former Valley Leaguers started a game in the minor leagues last night, and all four of them were good-to-awesome. All four received wins, as well.
Let’s take a look:
- For Double-A Hartford, Brandon Gold (Harrisonburg 2014) threw 6 innings against Reading, allowing 4 hits, 3 earned run, 0 walks, and 5 strikeouts. After 7 starts and 32 1/3 innings so far this spring, he’s 3-2, 4.45, with a 1.48 WHIP, 1.1 BB/9, and 8.1 K/9.
- For Double-A Pensacola, Randy Dobnak (Front Royal 2015) threw another good game, finishing 6 shutout innings, with 2 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. Randy has started 4 games for High-A Fort Myers, and now 2 games in Double-A, His total stats look like this: 4-0, 0.84, with a 0.99 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9, and 7.2 K/9 in 32 1/3 innings (yeah, same as Gold). Wow.
- For Low-A Greenville, Thad Ward (Staunton 2016) threw 6 innings at Rome, allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk, and striking out 7. After 7 starts and 36 innings, Thad is 2-2, 3.50, with a 1.28 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9, and 11.0 K/9.
- Last, but definitely not least, is former Waynesboro General Gabe Mosser (2017), who threw 6 innings for Low-A Fort Wayne. He allowed 6 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and struck out 6 to earn his second win. Overall, he’s 2-1, 3.16, with a 1.09 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9, and 8.3 K/9 in 31 1/3 innings pitched.
Great job to all four!
