As always, ATVL celebrates when any former Valley Leaguer gets a shot to fulfill what is most likely a lifelong dream- to sign a pro contract, and begin the long trek to possibly play in the major leagues. Sure, most players never make it that far, but you definitely won’t make it without playing pro ball.
Kevin Carlow, who played for Luray in 2010, is the latest to get this chance, as the St. Louis Cardinals signed him as a nondrafted free agent. They actually signed him back in February, but the signing was just made official in the first week of April.
Carlow, a 6-2 righthanded pitcher, played four years for Brown. His totals look like this: 6-20, 5.39, with a 1.71 WHIP, 5.2 BB/9, and 7.8 K/9 over 177 innings. The most important stat, though, is the speed of his fastball: 94 mph.
Congratulations, Kevin- and good luck chasing the dream!
