Drew Granier, a Harrisonburg Turk in both 2009 and 2010, threw an excellent game for the Double-A Midland RockHounds last night.
Granier threw 6 shutout innings, and allowed only 1 hit, 4 walks, and struck out 4. This lowered his ERA to 6.17, but almost all of the damage was done in Drew’s opening day start, when he gave up 7 earned runs in only 1 2/3 innings. Since then, he’s thrown 10 innings and allowed only one run.
Drew was a 32nd round draft pick in 2011 out of Louisiana Monroe, and he’s slowly worked his way up the chain. In 2011 in the Arizona and New York-Penn Leagues, he went 6-2, 1.75, with 69 strikeouts in 51 1/3 innings. In 2012, he moved up to the Midwest League and went 11-10, 3.21, with 167 strikeouts in 162 2/3 innings pitched. In 2013, he started 14 games in both the California League and Double-A Texas League, and went 9-9, 4.17 combined. He still struck out a bunch, as he ended with 153 in 155 1/3 innings.
ATVL named Drew the #6 starter in the league in 2009, and then he moved up to #5 the following year.
Nice job, Drew, and keep up the good work!
