A few days ago, milb.com named Eric Campbell (Luray 2006) the Pacific Coast League hitter of the week, after he put up .500/.577/.818, 5 G, 11-for-22, 4 2B, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 6 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 CS numbers for Las Vegas.
Eric, the Mets’ 8th round pick in the 2008 draft out of Boston College, has been pounding the ball for the Triple-A “51s.” On the year, he’s hitting 340/426/509, with 9 doubles, 3 home runs, and a sterling 15/14 BB/K ratio. Sure, it’s the PCL, a huge hitter’s league, but Eric has been hitting exceptionally well.
Another interesting piece of Eric’s season so far in 2014 is the number of different positions he’s played. He’s played at first, second, shortstop, third, left field, and right field! With the added versatility, I certainly hope the Mets call him up at some point this year. I think he deserves it!
This is what milb’s John Parker wrote about Eric:
The 51s have the best record in the PCL (18-6) and lead the circuit in scoring, hits and on-base percentage. Campbell is a big reason why — he has 33 hits and has scored 25 runs in his first 22 games. The 27-year-old infielder’s performance comes as no surprise — he posted a .435 OBP in Las Vegas last season — but with five extra-base just hits this week, Campbell has demonstrated more power this year than last. Batting .533 with runners on base may not be sustainable, but it’s to be celebrated.
Congrats, Eric!
