Last night, a ridiculous game was played in the Midwest League between the Clinton LumberKings and the Burlington Bees, and it also featured three former Valley Leaguers.

First of all, the craziness: Burlington led this game 17-1 after five innings. Pretty good, right? Game over? Burlington led Clinton 17-7 going into the top of the 8th inning- in other words, the Bees needed to get six outs before the LumberKings scored 10 runs. Certainly, the game’s over now, right? Not so fast.

Clinton scored 5 runs in both the 8th AND the 9th innings, sending this spectacle into extra innings. After a couple scoreless innings, Clinton finally broke through with 3 runs in the top of the 12th, and won the game 20-17 (an NFL score!).

How did the Valley League factor in? Like this:

1. Justin Seager (Woodstock 2011) went 4-7, with 3 runs, a triple, and 2 RBIs for Clinton. Justin is hitting 264/354/319 in 72 at-bats so far in 2014.

2. Emilio Pagan (Harrisonburg  2010) entered the game in relief to start the 9th inning, and threw 3 shutout innings, allowing only 1 hit, 0 walks, and 4 strikeouts, and earned the win, his first of the year. He lowered his ERA to 0.56 in 16 innings pitched.

3. Ben Carlson (Woodstock 2012), unfortunately, did not put up numbers like Seager and Pagan. Ben came in for Burlington in the 9th inning, and gave up 4 earned runs on 4 hits in 1/3 of an inning. On the year, Ben is 0-0, 3.94, with 12 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched.

Well. I don’t think we’ll see another game like this for a while!
