Continuing this theme of former VBLers performing well in the minor leagues lately, see exhibit C for today: Jon Griffin (Luray 2010) and Rudy Flores (Haymarket 2010). (By the way, Jon was ATVL’s #2 hitter in the league in 2010, while Rudy was given a “special” award because he didn’t have enough at-bats to qualify. Both were tremendous that year!)
Griffin can go on a tear with home runs, as we learned already this year when he hit four in one game (May 21), and then hit one in his first at-bat the next day, too. Last night, Jon hit two home runs for Double-A Mobile, and walked once. He now has three home runs and 10 RBI’s over the last three games. For the season, Jon is hitting 268/365/531 in 179 at-bats.
Flores is playing at a lower level than Griffin- he’s at High-A Visalia in the California League. Rudy’s had some trouble with controlling the strike zone, as he’s struck out 79 times against 12 walks in 217 at-bats. Last night, though, he swatted two home runs and drove in four runs against Lake Elsinore. He now has six RBI’s in the last two games. For the season, he’s hitting 240/296/415.
Congrats to both!
