The league really looks to have taken a turn to the offensive. (This is a small sample size, so bear with me: Wednesday, 49 runs in 4 games (12.3/game); Thursday, 46 runs in 4 games (11.5/game); Friday, 78 runs in 6 games (13.0/game); Saturday, 57 runs in 5 games (11.4/game). This isn’t anything close to the explosion that was 2012, but runs seem to be up over this past week.

Hitter of the Day
Our hitter of the day has shown up quite a few times in the “others of note” category, but this is the first time he had the best day (arguably, I suppose, since I’m making the choices). Anyway, Staunton’s Gunnar McNeill had yet another excellent game for the Braves, going 4-4, with a run, 4 RBIs, a walk, and a home run against the Rebs. The rising sophomore at Florida International has been having a tremendous year in the Valley so far this summer: he’s hitting 429/518/614 in 70 at-bats, with 7 doubles, 2 home runs, and a whopping 24 RBIs in just 18 games.

Pitcher of the Day
Since there’s been an uptick in runs scored, conversely, the game scores for starters have been lower. The top game score from last
night was turned in by Aldie’s Kyle McCormack, who achieved a score of 70 based on 8 innings of work, while allowing only 4 hits, 1 earned run, and 2 walks, while striking out 2. The Frostburg State righty is now 1-1, 2.45, with 8 walks and 9 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.
Others of Note

Garrett Ford, Harrisonburg: 8 IP, 9 hits, 1 earned run, 3 BB, 1 , win (58)
