Rain seemed to be in control in the Shenandoah Valley last night, as all games but one were cancelled.

Hitter of the Day

IMG_1393 resizedOur hitter of the day, Staunton’s James Vasquez, from Central Florida, is on a tear lately- he’s 8 for his last 14, and has raised his rate stats all the way to 393/400/623 in 61 at-bats. James drove in 43 runs in 42 games in 2013, and he’s back at it, driving in 22 runs in only 14 games this season so far. He was a top ten hitter in 2013, and he looks to be on the way to be again in 2014. Anyway, James hit two home runs last night, going 2-4, with 3 runs, 4 RBIs, and a walk. The big blow was a three-run home run in the 8th inning, tying the game for the Braves.

Pitcher of the Day

Well. Only two pitchers had what I would classify as a “good” night. Both pitched in relief, both only pitched one inning, but one wasJMU-NE BSB literally perfect: Staunton’s Dylan Horne, from JMU, struck out all three batters he faced in he 9th inning to earn the save. Dylan has thrown 7 1/3 innings so far this summer, allowing 4 hits, 6 walks, and striking out 8. He has an ERA of 3.68.

Other of Note

Tyler Zombro, Staunton: 1 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 BB, 2 K’s, the win
