Hitter of the Day
Our hitter of the day is, once again, Covington’s Jose Carrera, from Manhattan College. Jose is on a tear for the ‘Jacks lately, getting 11 hits in his last 18 at-bats. Last night, Jose went 4-5, with 3 runs, 2 RBIs, a double, and a home run. For the season so far, Jose is hitting 350/422/490 in 100 at-bats, with 8 doubles, 2 home runs, and a fantastic 12/5 BB/K ratio. (I have seen multiple comments about how it is an injustice that Jose is not invited to the All-Star game tonight. It certainly seems like he should be invited based on those numbers, it’s true, although I have done ZERO research on who should and shouldn’t be there. I hope he keeps hitting like this, which is all he can do at this point!)

Pitcher of the Day
Our pitcher of the day is not only pitching for Staunton, but he’s FROM Staunton, too! It’s Tyler Zombro, from George Mason. Tyler
threw 6 innings against Front Royal, and allowed only 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, and struck out 3 to earn the win (and a game score of 63). Tyler is now 2-0, 1.80, with 9 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched. Tyler was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team in 2014 for Mason. (As an additional note, both of his parents competed in sports at Bridgewater College- it’s possible that I played baseball against his dad!)
