The Waynesboro Generals, thanks to a solid start by Kevin Doherty and a team effort with the bats, avoided the fate of the other top seeds and joined 5th-seeded Charles Town in the final series.
Doherty stepped up just when the Generals needs him the most, throwing 8 innings and allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks, while striking out 5. Will Lowman threw a shutout 9th inning to earn the save. Michael McClellan had 3 hits and 2 RBIs, Cole Gruber continued his production with 2 hits, 2 runs, an RBI, stolen base, walk, and double, and Tyler Orris added his 2 hits.
Covington got two hits from both Hayden Platt and Matt O’Neil, while Demetrius Moorer had a triple and stolen base. (I’m disappointed that this is the last time I’ll write the name “Demetrius” this season!)
The Generals have advanced to the finals for the second year in a row- last year, they got an amazing effort from Bridgewater’s Corey Armentrout to win their first title since 2007.
Game one tonight in Waynesboro!
