Unfortunately, my updated league record book was one of the casualties to my fried hard drive last week. I’m slowly putting it back together (and it really isn’t that hard, because I still have my 2013 record book. So it’s only one year I need to update).
So here is the list of the top slugging percentages in the Valley League since 2004.
| 1 | Tyler Townsend | Winchester | 2008 | 0.739 |
| 2 | Jon Love | Front Royal | 2004 | 0.731 |
| 3 | Mac Williamson | Harrisonburg | 2011 | 0.706 |
| Joseph Odom | Winchester | 2012 | 0.706 | |
| 5 | Jimmy Yezzo | Winchester | 2012 | 0.679 |
| 6 | Ryan Sullivan | Covington | 2012 | 0.676 |
| 7 | Steve McQuail | Front Royal | 2009 | 0.669 |
| 8 | Collin Cowgill | Covington | 2005 | 0.659 |
| 9 | Bradley Picha | Winchester | 2012 | 0.657 |
| Julian Ridings | Waynesboro | 2012 | 0.657 |
Gunnar McNeill had the highest slugging percentage in 2014: .604 in the regular season, and .667 in the playoffs, but it didn’t quite get him on this list.
Williamson, Odom, Yezzo, McQuail, and Ridings are all current minor league players. Townsend played in the minors but has retired. Sullivan and Picha still have eligibility left, I think.
Cowgill is the big one- he’s about to start the playoffs with the Los Angeles Angels!
One last note on this list: notice all the 2012 entries? The year of the juiced baseball led to some inflated power numbers!
