Here at All Things Valley League, we celebrate along with our alumni whenever hardware is handed out after a long regular season.
Today we have one to celebrate: Matt Brazis, who pitched for the Winchester Royals in both 2009 and 2011, has been named the Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Year for the Seattle Mariners!
Matt pitched at two levels in 2014. He started the season with High Desert- a brutal, brutal place for pitchers. All he did there is go 3-0, 2.97, with 34 hits, 8 walks, and 50 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings pitched. He was then called up to Double-A Jackson of the Southern League in early July, and his stats actually got better. From the callup to the end of the season, he went 1-1, 1.64, with 20 hits, 10 walks, and 34 strikeouts in 33 innings.
So, combined, Matt went 4-1, 2.36, with 54 hits, 18 walks, and a whopping 84 strikeouts in 72 1/3 innings pitched.
Sure looks like he deserved his award! Way to go, Matt!
