All Things Valley League’s #6 hitter from the 2014 season is Woodstock’s Esteban Puerta, the redshirt sophomore from Florida Atlantic.
Esteban brought a blend on on-base ability and power to the RiverBandits. Over 130 at-bats, he hit 315/414/531, with 18 runs, 7 doubles, 7 home runs, 27 RBIs, and a solid 21/30 BB/K ratio. He finished 3rd in the league in slugging, tied for 1st in home runs (with Front Royal’s Hunter Newman), and 5th in OPS (on base percentage plus slugging percentage). He had a super-hot streak from July 17 to July 26, when he hit 5 home runs in 7 Valley League games.
The computer science major had a very good freshman year in 2014 for FAU. He hit 276/361/371 in 105 at-bats, with 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 18 RBIs, and a 11/17 BB/K ratio. He was named the C-USA Hitter of the Week on April 7th, after a week in which he hit .533.
