Our next look at the Valley League record book since 2004 is at walks (for the hitters).
Here’s the list:
| 1 | Jason Kipnis | Covington | 2007 | 49 |
| 2 | Pat Irvine | Waynesboro | 2007 | 48 |
| 3 | Mike Schwartz | Harrisonburg | 2009 | 43 |
| Jay Gonzalez | Harrisonburg | 2011 | 43 | |
| Mike Marcinko | Waynesboro | 2014 | 43 | |
| 6 | Sanchez Gartman | New Market | 2009 | 42 |
| Ryan Sullivan | Covington | 2012 | 42 | |
| 8 | Chris Aninos | Waynesboro | 2007 | 41 |
| Nathan Minnich | Winchester | 2011 | 41 | |
| Jordan Tarsovich | Strasburg | 2013 | 41 |
Another fascinating list.
Our one major leaguer, Jason Kipnis, tops the list with an amazing 49 walks over a complete season. Jay Gonzalez is the only other active minor (or major) league player.
Pat Irvine, Mike Schwartz (currently playing in the Frontier League), and Nathan Minnich have all played affiliated ball, but are not any longer.
Mike Marcinko, just recently named the #5 hitter in the 2014 season, is the only entry from the just-concluded season.
Three from Waynesboro, two each from Covington and Harrisonburg, and then one from New Market, Winchester, and Strasburg.
We are nearing the end of the hitting leaders…
