It’s time to move over to the pitchers in our 2004-2014 league record posts. (There are not nearly as many categories, though!)

We’ll start with earned run average.

1 Aaron Cressley New Market 2013 0.62
2 Daniel Thorpe Aldie 2013 1.10
Richard Winters Woodstock 2013 1.10
4 Drew Rucinski Luray 2008 1.13
5 Ben Wade Covington 2005 1.17
6 Robert Gilliam Luray 2007 1.26
Lance Baxter Staunton 2008 1.26
8 Dustin Umberger Luray 2007 1.29
9 Adam Liberatore Waynesboro 2008 1.36
10 Justin Camp Harrisonburg 2013 1.37

It’s interesting (to me) that 2012 was such a huge offensive year, but take a look at that list- there are FOUR pitchers from 2013, including the top three ERAs in the last 11 seasons! (Of course, all of these had to reach the league’s threshold for the ERA title, which is 0.8 innings pitched per team game.)

The lowest ERA for the 2014 regular season was Keegan Long’s 1.61 for Front Royal, by the way.

So, Aaron Cressley, Robert Gilliam, and Adam Liberatore are all currently in the minor leagues… in fact, Liberatore had an amazing year in Triple-A in the Tampa Bay Rays’ system. Add to them Drew Rucinski, who not only was terrific in Double-A, but he also made his major league debut for the Angels in 2014. Lance Baxter and Dustin Umberger played in the minors for a very brief time.

Ricky Winters just finished his senior year at Delta State, Daniel Thorpe did the same at Saint Joseph’s, and Justin Camp is currently a redshirt junior at Auburn. Ben Wade pitched at Southern Miss, but did not play in pro ball.
