We have extolled the virtues of Tommy La Stella in these pages before.
A Haymarket Senator in 2009, Tommy made his major league debut with the Braves in 2014 after 167 at-bats in Triple-A Gwinnett. Tommy hit 251/328/317 in 319 at-bats in Atlanta. His bat control is excellent; he walked 36 times against 40 strikeouts in his time in the majors.
Now, though, after being traded for Arodys Vizcaino and three international signing bonus slots, he joins a very crowded middle infield in Chicago. The Cubs already have Javier Baez, Logan Watkins, Luis Valbuena, Starlin Castro, Arismendy Alcantara, and even Addison Russell, the top prospect former in the Oakland A’s system (who came over in the Jeff Samardzija trade), to fill two infield slots.
I would imagine that the Cubs will make a few more moves this offseason- mostly to add pitching. So there will most likely be more to this story as the offseason unfolds!
