It’s the offseason, so players have been moving organizations quite a bit. Let’s get caught up, shall we?

1. The Arizona Diamondbacks signed Al Yevoli (Staunton 2010-11) out of the independent Frontier League. Al was signed by the Cubs and Braves before, but only appeared in 11 games in the Cubs’ system in 2013. Give him a chance, Arizona!

2. Brad Mills (Harrisonburg 05), most recently of the Toronto Blue Jays, elected free agency on Sept 29, and then was signed by Oakland on October 16. It’s a good sign to get scooped up quickly, I think. Brad pitched in the major leagues for both the A’s and the Blue Jays in 2014. He was lights out in Triple-A!

3. Clint Robinson (Harrisonburg 05-06) elected free agency from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Clint holds most of the minor league records for both seasonal and career performances (as you will discover soon, dear reader). He is still a free agent.

In fact, these players are also still minor league free agents: Craig Albernaz (Woodstock 2004), Brian Bocock (Luray 2004), Greg Burke (Front Royal 2001), Ben Guez (Covington 2006), Josh Judy (Haymarket 2006-2007), Eddy Rodriguez (Luray 2006-2007), Tim Sexton (Staunton 2006-2007), Elih Villanueva (Luray 2007), and Bryan Woodall (Winchester 2007).

4. Arizona released Dan Bowman (Luray 09). The Snakes signed Bowman as a free agent in 2013. He got a whole 223 at-bats in the minors.

5. Minnesota Twins resigned Tony Thomas (Harrisonburg 05). Tony was named the Twins’ second baseman of the year by milb.com.

6. The Chicago White Sox released Grant Buckner (Wayensboro 2007-2008), Matt Abramson (Haymarket 2012), and Cody Yount (Front Royal 2011-2012). The sad end for three former Valley Leaguers and the White Sox.

7. The New York Mets released Luis Arrizurieta (Front Royal 2011). Luis has the hardest name to spell for me, I think. He got a total of 80 at-bats in 2 minor league seasons.

8. Houston Astros released Kevin Ferguson (Haymarket 2010). I’m pretty sure I met Kevin’s dad in Haymarket in the 2010 playoffs.

9. The Kansas City Royals released Shane Halley (Waynesboro 2011) and Jon Fitzsimmons (Front Royal 2012).

10. Antoan Richardson (Winchester 2003) elected free agency from the New York Yankees. I wonder what it was like to witness the media circus around Derek Jeter’s farewell?

11. The Milwaukee Brewers released Wesley Cox (Front Royal 2013), Greg Hopkins (Haymarket  2009), and Chad Pierce (Fauquier 2008-2009). Cox was just signed as a free agent in 2014. Hopkins was on the VL champs in ’09, and Pierce was one of the few Fauquier Gators left in existence….

12. The Baltimore Orioles signed Frank Gailey (New Market 2005-2006) as a free agent. ATVL interviewed Frank back in February.

13. Kevin Munson (Covington 2008) and Jack Leathersich (Haymarket 2009) were added to the 40-man roster of the Diamondbacks and Mets, respectively. They are now protected against poaching from other teams in the Rule V draft…

14. The Toronto Blue Jays resigned Scott Copeland (Staunton 2007), who was a minor league free agent.

15. The Tampa Bay Rays traded Adam Liberatore (Waynesboro 2007-2008) and Joel Peralta to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Jose Dominguez and Greg Harris. The Dodgers then added Liberatore to the 40-man roster. ATVL covered this trade on November 27th.

16. The Chicago White Sox signed Logan Kensing (Harrisonburg) as a minor league free agent.
