Our 3rd best starting pitcher in the 2014 Valley League season is Humberto Delatorre, also known as Junior, from Aldie and South Carolina Beaufort!
Junior had a fantastic season for the Senators, going 3-3, 2.17 (5th best in the league), while allowing 34 hits, 21 walks, and striking out 50 in 49 2/3 innings pitched. He allowed a .192 opponent’s batting average, and had a 1.107 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9, and 9.1 K/9. His best game was a 6 inning scoreless stint against Strasburg, in which he gave up 2 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 14. Yes, you read that correctly- he struck out 14 of the 24 batters he faced.
For the Sand Sharks of South Carolina Beaufort, Junior had a 1.42 ERA in 15 appearances as a freshman in 2012. The next season, in 2013, he went 4-3, 3.71, with 42 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched. Then, 2014, as a junior, he went 6-2, 3.16, with 49 strikeouts in 77 innings pitched.
Hopefully, Junior’s senior year will go even better! Congrats on a great season!
