Let’s take a look at the minor league starts by former Valley Leaguers on Sunday, May 17, and Monday, May 18…
Sunday
- Elih Villanueva (Luray 2007) for AAA Norfolk: 5 IP, 10 hits, 7 runs, 6 earned, 1 BB, 1 K, loss, 8-5, game score of 21. Elih dominated Double-A Bowie, but fared a bit differently in his first 2015 start in Triple-A. Overall, though, Elih is 4-4, 4.14 in 45.2 innings.
- Tyler Thornburg (Winchester 2008) for AAA Colorado Springs: 6.2 IP, 8 hits, 5 earned runs, 5 BB, 2 K’s, loss, 6-2, game score of 35. Tyler struggled with his control in this one. He’s now 0-1, 3.70 in 24.1 Triple-A innings.
- Javier Salas (Luray 2011) for A Brevard County: 6 Ip, 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 3 BB, 5 K’s, loss, 4-1, game score of 58. Another solid start for Javi, who is now 2-3, 2.83 in 41.1 innings.
Monday
- Chris Huffman (Staunton 2012-13) for A Fort Wayne: 5 IP, 7 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 BB, 2 K’s, win, 9-2, game score of 46. The former JMU righty is now 1-1, 3.00 in 9 innings pitched in 2 starts.
- Austin Gomber (Luray 2012) for A Peoria: 7 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 BB, 4 K’s, win, 1-0, game score of 79. Austin has been absolutely dominant lately. Don’t be surprised if he is moved up a level or two soon. Austin is now 3-3, 2.93 in 43 innings pitched.
- Brad Mills (Harrisonburg 2005) for AAA Nashville: 7 IP, 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 4 BB, 5 K’s, loss, 4-1, game score of 58. (Pretty cool that two pitchers who pitched 7 years apart are listed next to each other…) Brad is 1-5, 4.62 in 39 innings pitched.
Scheduled for Tuesday
- Sam Howard (Staunton 2012) for A Asheville
- Taylor Hill (Winchester 2008) for AAA Syracuse
- Harrison Cooney (Front Royal 2012) for A Inland Empire
