Two former Valley League players, both drafted this year (and teammates a year ago!), have been named to the postseason Arizona League All-Star team!

Firstly, James Vasquez (Staunton 2013-14), drafted in the 25th round by the Cincinnati Reds, was named the top first baseman, but more importantly, he was also named the MVP! James destroyed the rookie-level league over 42 games and 142 at-bats, hitting 359/415/669, with 11 doubles, 3 triples, 9 home runs, and 36 RBIs. That, folks, is what an MVP’s stats look like.
Secondly, Heath Slatton (Staunton 2014), an 18th-round pick of the San Francisco Giants, was named the top right handed relief pitcher. Heath went 3-1, 0.79, with 8 saves, 14 hits, 5 walks, and 24 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings pitched. He has since been bumped up a level to Salem-Keizer, the Giants’ Northwest League affiliate. He threw a shutout inning just last night.
Congrats to both!
