So, it makes sense now.

Milb.com asked fans to vote for awards in certain categories, and then invited us to vote as often as we’d like. As with the major league all-star game voting this past year, that approach can lead to some strange results.

Well, it turns out that milb was planning all along to name their own winner in each category, and then give a little sidebar to the fan’s choice.

So while Tyler White (Haymarket 2010) was the leading votegetter to win the fan’s choice part of the award (way to go, Valley League!), milb named another Houston prospect, A.J. Reed, as the “official” winner of the award.

We’ll take what we can get. This is the sidebar that Tyler got:

Like (A.J.) Reed, an Astros prospect who was stellar across two levels, White batted .284 with a .415 on-base percentage for the Double-A Hooks for his first 59 games of the year, then helped the Triple-A Grizzlies to a Pacific Coast League title and the Triple-A National Championship. White was chosen out of Western Carolina University in the 33rd round of the 2013 Draft, but he looked decidedly more seasoned than that in his first crack at the PCL. In 57 regular-season games with Fresno, he hit .362/.467/.559 with 27 extra-base hits.

Tyler won the fan’s vote with 22% of the total, while Reed garnered 18%.
