Our 9th best starting pitcher of the 2015 season is Waynesboro’s Matt Horkey, from North Carolina Charlotte!
For the Generals, Matt went 3-1, 2.58, with 36 hits allowed, 10 walks, and 23 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings pitched. His WHIP is 1.201, BB/9 is 2.3, and his K/9 is 5.4. His best start was July 1st against Covington, when he threw 7 shutout innings while allowing only 2 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 4.
The current sophomore pitched quite a bit for the 49ers in his freshman year in 2015. Overall, he finished 2-5, 5.01, with 10 walks and 22 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings pitched. The six foot lefty also applies himself in the classroom; he was named to the Dean’s List in both Fall and Spring semesters, and was named to Conference USA’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Matt was named a “Scholar Athlete” three times in high school, so this should come as no surprise. Here at ATVL, we love our smart, committed baseball players!
Congratulations on your excellent summer, Matt!
