The 6th best reliever in the 2015 Valley League season is Waynesboro’s Alex Mauricio, from Norfolk State!
In 12 games (1 start) for the Generals, Alex went 1-0, 1.80, with 2 saves, a 1.000 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9, and 10.4 K/9 over 25 innings. He gave up three earned runs in his only start, which means he gave up only 2 earned runs in 21 relief innings. Not bad, eh? He was also dominant in the playoffs, without giving up an earned run, with one save, over 4 1/3 innings pitched. He gave up 5 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 6.
Add Alex to the list of pitchers in the Valley who are here to accrue innings, as he only pitched in 2 games for the Spartans as a freshman in 2015. He batted 86 times, though, and put up an interesting 256/385/267 stat line while playing three different infield positions.
Through March 2nd, Alex has pitched in 2 games, and has given up 1 earned run in 4 1/3 innings pitched. He’s also hitting 241/333/448 in 29 at-bats. He currently leads the Spartans with 2 home runs.
Congratulations on your excellent summer, Alex!
