Hitter(s) of the Day
Every once in a while, I’ll look at the hitting stats, and I won’t be able to pick one stat line as the best for the night. I look at one, make the case for it, then look at the other, and make the case for that one. Last night was one of those nights. So, since this is my website/FB page, I suppose I can do what I want. Therefore, I’ve decided to give the hitter of the day award to two players.
Player A: Andrew Kowalo, Staunton and Liberty! Andrew is our first repeat hitter of the day, as he also won the “award” back on June 5th. Andrew went 3-4 in Staunton’s blowout, with 2 runs, 6 RBIs, 2 walks, and a home run! He was on base 5 times, and was responsible for 7 of Staunton’s runs. He now 10-32 in the VBL season; he’s slashing 313/452/438. Andrew hit 271/380/452 for Liberty this spring.
Player B: Jacob Tisevich, Woodstock and Southern Arkansas! Jacob went 4-4, with 4 runs, a double, 2 triples, a stolen base, and a hit-by-pitch! He also was on base 5 times. He’s now hitting 436/511/718 in 39 at-bats in this young season, with 3 triples already! Just one more will get him on the league record book tied for 10th in the last 13 seasons. Jacob is 12-21 in his last 5 games, by the way. He hit 302/368/489 in 182 at-bats (with 4 triples) for the Muleriders. The Muleriders. Interesting moniker.
Anyway, congrats to both Andrew and Jacob!

Pitcher of the Day
The hitter of the day was a tough call, but the pitcher of the day was not difficult at all. Our POD is very clearly
Staunton’s Sam Vincenzo, from St. Thomas! Sam threw a complete game shutout- those rarest of starts these days- while allowing only 1 hit, 1 walk, and striking out 4. He obviously earned the win, and the highest game score so far in 2016- 88. With pitch counts so important these days, complete games have almost disappeared, but Sam used only 86 pitches in this one! Pretty amazing. The 6-foot-3 lefty is now 2-0, 1.20 in 15 innings this summer. For St. Thomas this spring, he went 3-2, 3.02 in 62 2/3 innings.
