Hitter of the Day
An easy call from last night- Strasburg’s Drew Avans, from Southeastern Louisiana, is the only player with more than 2 hits- and he had 4! Drew went 4-4, with 2 runs, an RBI, a walk, and 2 doubles. Drew is now hitting 222/295/250 in 36 at-bats for the Express. He’s pulling double duty, though, as he’s also thrown 11 innings from the mound (where else?!). He’s 1-0, 0.81, with 13 strikeouts in those 11 innings.
Others of Note
Tripp Shelton, Harrisonburg: 2-3, run, BB, 2B (I feel like Tripp is on this list every day- he’s been an “other” three days in a row)
Kevin Bryant, Woodstock: 2-4, 2B, SB
Nick Ward, Woodstock: 2-4, run, RBI, HR
Donovan May, Strasburg: 1-2, 3 runs, RBI, 2 BB
Erick Delgado, Strasburg: 1-3, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, 2 BB, HR, SB
Trevor Jensen, Winchester: 2-5, 2B, 3B
Pitcher of the Day
FOUR starters finished with game scores over 70 last night, but no one was as high as Alex London, Purcellville’s
starter, from Mississippi State. Alex scored a 78, as he threw 7 shutout, one-hit innings against Front Royal, allowing only 3 walks, and striking out 6. He also was given the win. Alex is 1-1, 3.60 in 5 starts this summer so far.
