Let’s take a look at the highest strikeout totals since the 2004 Valley League season!
| 1 | Tim Gudex | Harrisonburg | 2004 | 89 |
| 2 | Dustin Umberger | Luray | 2007 | 88 |
| 3 | Cody Weiss | Luray | 2010 | 87 |
| 4 | Drew Granier | Harrisonburg | 2010 | 84 |
| 5 | Robert Gilliam | Luray | 2007 | 81 |
| 6 | Jeff Dagenhart | New Market | 2004 | 79 |
| Josh Eidell | Woodstock | 2007 | 79 | |
| 8 | Kevin Herget | Strasburg | 2012 | 77 |
| 9 | Omar Aguilar | Covington | 2004 | 76 |
| Sean Stidfole | Winchester | 2004 | 76 |
This list is almost the opposite of the innings pitched list, at least in terms of affiliated ball. On the innings pitched list, only two had played affiliated ball, while this list has only two players who did not (those two are Josh Eidell and Jeff Dagenhart).
None of the eight have reached the majors, and, in fact, only one- Kevin Herget- is still active. Kevin had a super 2016 season, even reaching Triple-A for an appearance. So maybe next year?
By the way, Blake Whitney led the 2016 Valley League with 63 K’s.
