We’re nearing the end of the regular season, so it may be time to take a look at the league standings. This info is, of course, available on the league’s website, but let’s take a look at what’s up….
North | W | L | Pct. | GB | |
1 | Purcellville | 22 | 11 | 0.667
2 | New Market | 20 | 15 | 0.571 | 3 |
3 | Strasburg | 17 | 17 | 0.500 | 5.5 |
4 | Winchester | 16 | 18 | 0.471 | 6.5 |
5 | Front Royal | 16 | 19 | 0.457 | 7 |
6 | Woodstock | 12 | 21 | 0.364 | 10 |
The Cannons have a good grip on the top seed here- 3 games with 9 games left. New Market is a solid #2 (with only 7 games left), and the Express (8 left), Royals (8 left), and Cardinals (7 left) are battling for the last two spots. The Cards are sinking, and the Royals are streaking. The River Bandits have a hill to climb to get back into it.
If the season ended right now, the playoffs would be:
#1 Purcellville vs #4 Winchester
#2 new Market vs #3 Strasburg
South | W | L | Pct. | GB | |
1 | Charlottesville | 23 | 9 | 0.719
2 | Waynesboro | 19 | 17 | 0.528 | 6 |
3 | Harrisonburg | 17 | 17 | 0.500 | 7 |
4 | Staunton | 15 | 20 | 0.429 | 9.5 |
5 | Covington | 10 | 23 | 0.303 | 13.5 |
This division is a little more settled, at least at the top.
The Tom Sox have clinched a playoff spot, even with 10 games left. The Generals (6 games left) and the Turks (8 left) are battling for the 2nd spot, with the Braves (7 left) looking on. The Lumberjacks aren’t eliminated from the playoffs, but they need a run in their last 9 games to catch Staunton.
If the season ended today:
#1 Charlottesville vs #4 Staunton
#2 Waynesboro vs #3 Harrisonburg
Charlottesville is 1.5 games ahead of Purcellville for the top overall seed as well.
