I’m just going to go ahead and put it down: this guy, Cody Wilson, from Winchester, reminds me of Mike Trout.
I know, I know, it’s ridiculous to put such a declaration on a college player- to compare him to the best baseball player on the planet (yeah, Parker, he’s better than Manny Machado- significantly better, even with a supremely awesome walk-off last night). And while Trout has 35 pounds on Cody, Cody’s game- a little power, a little speed- reminds me of Trout. And Cody looks like him a little bit, too.
Ok, we can pump the brakes on that analogy.
The truth, though, is that Wilson, from Palm Beach State and a Florida Atlantic signee, had an excellent summer for the Royals. Here are his summer stats:
| VBL | G | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | K | SB | CS | Avg | OBP | SLG |
| 2017 | 37 | 152 | 36 | 51 | 11 | 6 | 0 | 23 | 22 | 34 | 21 | 3 | 0.336 | 0.426 | 0.487 |
| Play | 6 | 29 | 4 | 8 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 7 | 2 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 0.276 | 0.323 | 0.483 |
Cody finished 9th in the league in OPS, tied for 9th in walks, 6th in total bases, 1st in triples, while setting the record (since 2004), tied for 4th in doubles, tied for 7th in hits, tied for 3rd in runs, and was named to the All-Valley League 2nd team at outfield. His best game was on July 21st against New Market, when he went 3-4, with 5 runs, 2 triples, 2 walks, and 2 stolen bases. A little bit of everything.
Cody’s stats for Palm Beach look like this:
| PBS | G | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | K | SB | CS | Avg | OBP | SLG |
| 2016 | 49 | 192 | 34 | 62 | 9 | 3 | 5 | 34 | 8 | 42 | 11 | 1 | 0.323 | 0.375 | 0.479 |
| 2017 | 8 | 25 | 1 | 8 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 7 | 2 | 8 | 2 | 0 | 0.320 | 0.393 | 0.520 |
In 2016, Cody was the Palm Beach team leader in runs, triples, home runs, RBIs, and slugging. Cody has reportedly signed with Florida Atlantic for this fall. Congrats on your excellent summer season!
