Jerry Downs was very, very good in the Valley League in 2014 for the Winchester Royals- he hit 355/476/497 with a 33/24 BB/K ratio- so it should come as no surprise that he’s hitting very well for the Red Sox’s High-A team, Salem (pretty close to a couple of our Valley teams!).
Drafted in the 15th round in 2015 by the Sox, Jerry was assigned to the Gulf Coast League, where he hit 275/399/382 in 131 at-bats.
He played in Lowell of the New York-Penn League in 2016, and hit 261/350/414 in 157 at-bats. He didn’t get many more at-bats in 2017 for Greenville in the South Atlantic League and Gulf Coast League again, only 149 total, and hit a combined 255/363/409.
This year, though, it looks like Jerry is putting it together. At Salem, in 103 at-bats so far, Jerry is hitting 311/374/427, with 6 doubles, 2 home runs, and a 5/24 BB/K ratio.
Congrats, and keep it up!
