The stolen base seems to be on the wane in the major leagues… I’m sure there’s a way to look this up…. but the truth is that on this list below, a grand total of 20 bases were swiped in 2018. Let’s take a look anyway:
| 2006-2018 | |||
| 1 | Jason Kipnis | Covington ’06-7 | 128 |
| 2 | Dan Murphy | Luray ’05 | 67 |
| 3 | Jon Jay | Staunton ’04 | 55 |
| 4 | Cory Spangenberg | Winchester ’10 | 31 |
| 5 | Yonder Alonso | Luray ’06 | 22 |
| 6 | Collin Cowgill | Covington ’05 | 14 |
| 7 | Eric Campbell | Luray ’06 | 9 |
| 8 | Rico Noel | Covington ’08 | 5 |

| 10 | Brian Bocock | Luray ’04 | 4 |
| Blake Tekotte | Woodstock ’06 | 4 | |
| Tommy La Stella | Haymarket ’09 | 4 |
There are no additions and no changes. Interesting that Jason Kipnis has just about doubled up Dan Murphy.

Additions: None
Changes:
- Brett Gardner stole 16 bases in 2018, and passed Darren Lewis and Gene Richards to move into 4th place
- Jason Kipnis stole 7 bases, and passed David Eckstein into 7th
- Dan Murphy stole 3 bases, and moved into a tie for 12th with Adam Everett
- Jon Jay stole 4 bases, and passed Emil Brown into 17th place
So Kipnis has just about doubled up the competition; well, so has Juan Pierre!
