Matt Hockenberry spent much of his high school career in the Philly area (Malvern), played for the now-defunct Temple baseball program in college, and was just drafted by the Phillies a month ago, in the 9th round. Now, after a few weeks in the Gulf Coast League, in Clearwater, Florida, Matt has been called up to Lakewood of the South Atlantic League. As Lakewood is in New Jersey, it’s a quick homecoming of sorts for the former Woodstock RiverBandit (2013).
Matt performed very well in the Valley last summer- ATVL named him the 11th best starter in the league.
