Perfect Game has released its list of summer All-Americans, and one Valley Leaguer was named, while another received an “honorable mention.”
First of all, Valley League MVP Gunnar McNeill (Staunton) was named to the All-American third team at first base. McNeill hit 402/469/604 for the Braves, along with 16 doubles, 6 home runs, and 50 RBIs.
Hunter Newman, from Front Royal, received an honorable mention.
Perfect Game claims that “the players were selected largely based on their summer performance, with an emphasis placed on the most competitive leagues,” but only one player was named from the Valley League, while five were picked from the Perfect Game League. Take that as you wish.
ATVL will have coverage from Baseball America’s list of top prospects over the coming weeks.
Congratulations to McNeill and Thomas!
