You know, I, like everyone else, don’t enjoy making mistakes. It happens more often than I’d like to admit, unfortunately (like continually writing that Staunton and Harrisonburg are in the South Division, for example). The last couple posts on the playoff situations did not take one factor into account: the league has added (at this point) two make up games on Sunday (Winchester at Covington and Staunton at Strasburg). These games were not listed when I began looked at playoff scenarios (but I should have asked).
In other words, the scenarios I posted were not completely correct. So read on to see the new, improved playoff situation!
South Division
1. Harrisonburg: 29-12, 1 game remaining against Staunton. The Turks need either a win tonight or a Staunton loss on Sunday to clinch first place. If the Turks lose tonight and Staunton wins Sunday, the Braves and Turks will be tied for first. (Anyone know the tiebreaker?)
2. Staunton: 27-13, 2 games remaining: @Harrisonburg, @Strasburg. See Turks writeup. Braves can tie for first with two wins!
3. Waynesboro: 21-20, 1 game remaining against Charlottesville. The Generals have clinched the #3 seed. Win or loss tonight, they are #3.
T4. Charlottesville: 17-23, 2 games remaining: @Waynesboro, Winchester. Tied with Covington for the last spot. May come down to a tiebreaker!
T4. Covington: 17-23, 2 games remaining: @New Market, Winchester. The playoff road goes through Winchester, it seems….
6. New Market: 15-26, 1 game left against Covington. The Rebels are eliminated from the playoff race.
North Divison (This is a jumble!)
1. Strasburg: 21-19 (.525), 2 games left: @Winchester, Staunton. The Express have clinched a playoff spot! The position, though, is TBD. The Express play two hugely important games yet.
T2. Aldie: 21-20 (.512), 1 game left against Woodstock. Clinched a playoff spot. Position TBD.
T2. Front Royal: 21-20 (.512), 1 game left @Charles Town. Clinched a playoff spot. Position TBD.
4. Winchester: 19-20 (.487), 3 games left: Strasburg, @Covington, @Charlottesville. The Royals are playing both of the last two games on Sunday. Can they pull it off? (One win guarantees a tie; two wins and the Royals are in!)
5. Woodstock: 19-22 (.463), 1 game left @Aldie. The River Bandits still have a shot, if they win and Winchester loses their last three. A Winchester win and Woodstock loss, though, and the Bandits are done. Two Winchester wins will eliminate the ‘Stock no matter what.
6. Charles Town: 16-25, 1 game left against Front Royal. The Cannons are eliminated from playoff contention.
Tom Sox play Winchester on the 26th in Charlottesville
Thanks, Joby- I’m updating the post now…
