Corey Sessions, the 6-foot-3 righthanded senior from Davenport, didn’t strike out too many batters in the 2015 Valley League season, but he didn’t allow many baserunners, either. Overall, his stats are worthy of the #4 position on our list of top starters!
Corey went 5-2, 2.01 in 40 1/3 innings, while allowing 29 hits, only 6 walks, and striking out 20. His WHIP is a minuscule 0.868, his BB/9 was a tiny 1.3, and his K/9 was 4.5. He had two starts that were better than the rest: on June 19, he shut out Winchester over 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 3. Nine days later, on June 28, he threw a complete game at Waynesboro, allowing 6 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, and striking out 2. He also pitched a clean inning in the All-Star game. No hits, no walks, no strikeouts.
Corey is an amazing 16-1 over his first three years at Davenport. In 2013 as a freshman, he went 5-1, 1.62, with 25 hits, 6 walks, and 28 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings.
In 2014, as a sophomore, Corey went 6-0, 3.04, with 69 hits, 13 walks, and 41 strikeouts in 71 innings pitched. His workload was almost half as a junior, as he only threw 34 1/3 innings, and allowed 38 hits, 11 walks, and struck out 20.
He was also named “Academic All-WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference)” in 2014.

Congrats on your excellent summer, Corey!
