We start off the top hitters of the 2015 Valley League season with Matthew Koehler, from Woodstock and Western Carolina!
Matthew had an excellent season in the Valley, hitting 308/419/414 in 37 games and 133 at-bats. He added 27 runs, 19 RBIs, 6 doubles, 4 triples, 8 stolen bases, and 18 walks against 28 strikeouts. He was also hit by a pitch 8 times, which obviously helped his OBP. Matthew had 3 hits in a game 4 times, including three games in a row July 15-17, in which he went 9-13 overall.
Koehler is currently a sophomore at Western Carolina. As a freshman in 2015, he hit 233/349/278 in 90 at-bats, with 16 runs, 6 RBIs, 4 doubles, 5 stolen bases, and a 10/29 BB/K ratio. Watch for a breakout season in 2016 for the Catamounts!
