For the first time in the 2016 playoffs, a series did not end with a sweep! The reason for this is that the Front Royal Cardinals, riding two swings from Martin Napleton, defeated the Strasburg Express 7-2.
Front Royal 7, Strasburg 2 (Series tied, 1-1) (As written below, Martin Napleton took care of almost all the scoring for the Cardinals, and Mitch Stophel shut down the Strasburg offense over the last 4 innings to tie the series.)
Hitter of the Day
This is an easy one. Front Royal’s Martin Napleton, from St. Joseph’s, accounted for 6 of the Cardinals’ 7 runs with just two swings of the bat. He hit a bases-loaded double in the 6th inning, clearing the bases, and added a 3-run home run in the 8th for good measure. If you’re counting at home, that’s a double, home run, one run scored, and six RBIs. Martin is now 2-7 in the playoffs, after hitting 218/463/327 in 55 at-bats in the regular season.
Others of Note
Haiden Lamb, Strasburg: 2-5, run
Carter Pharis, Strasburg: 2-4

Pitcher of the Day

Mitch went 1-3, 2.14 in 29.1 innings in the regular season, and has thrown 5 shutout innings so far in the playoffs.
