The 9th best hitter in the 2016 Valley League season, according to ATVL, is Front Royal’s Zac Wiley!
The Bellarmine redshirt sophomore hit 303/403/529 in 119 at-bats for the Cards, with 19 runs, 22 RBIs, 9 doubles, 6 home runs, 1 stolen base, and a 13/29 BB/K ratio. He also went 4-19 with 3 runs scored in the playoffs. His best game was on July 19 against Woodstock, when Zac went 4-4 with 2 runs, a double, home run, and 4 RBIs. He also pitched in 7 games for the Cardinals, and went 1-2, 7.36, with 1 save and 9 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings. Zac was named first team All-Valley as an outfielder after the season.
In Zac’s freshman year at Division-II Bellarmine in 2015, he started 12-19 in 8 games, but then injured his hamstring, missing the rest of the year and subsequently being redshirted. Returning to action in 2016, he hit 248/339/287 in 101 at-bats, with 4 doubles and a 13/15 BB/K ratio. He threw 24 2/3 innings, too, going 2-1, 6.57, with 8 walks and 24 strikeouts.
I think Zac’s ready for a breakout – watch for it this spring!
