Let’s take a look at the next category for pitchers- saves! (Highest totals since the 2004 Valley League season, by the way)
| 1 | Adam Zipko | New Market | 2013 | 18 |
| 2 | Chris Dennis | Winchester | 2004 | 15 |
| 3 | Derrik Lutz | Front Royal | 2004 | 14 |
| 4 | Brandon Dickson | New Market | 2005 | 13 |
| Joel Brookens | Front Royal | 2007 | 13 | |
| Jimmy Stanley | Waynesboro | 2007 | 13 | |
| Shawn Griffith | Fauquier | 2008 | 13 | |
| 8 | Bobby Hernandez | Staunton | 2007 | 12 |
| 9 | Chris Fessler | Harrisonburg | 2005 | 11 |
| Daniel Bridgeman | Strasburg | 2013 | 11 |
Adam Zipko sure took care of the #1 spot back in 2013, didn’t he? He has 20% more than Chris Dennis.
One major leaguer on the list- Brandon “Cotton” Dickson, who pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011 and 2012, and has also pitched professionally in Japan the last four years. (I would love to interview Brandon someday…)
Chris Dennis, Shawn Griffith, Bobby Hernandez, and Chris Fessler have all pitched in affiliated ball, but do not any longer.
Nick Pupura, from Covington, led the 2016 Valley League with 10 saves, by the way.
