The free agent dominoes are starting to fall in major league baseball- and a former Valley Leaguer is one of the first!
Jon Jay, a Staunton Brave back in 2004, has been signed by Theo Epstein and the world champion Chicago Cubs to either platoon with Albert Almora or be a pinch hitter/defensive replacement. His contract is only for one year, but he’ll make a cool $8 million. (I feel like we need to write “world champion Cubs” as much as possible over the next four months.)
Jay is a career 287/352/384 hitter in 7 seasons, and is considered an excellent defender in the outfield. Now he gets to chase another world series ring (he won one in 2011 in St.Louis)!
