Murray State’s John Lollar is perhaps best known for his incredible leg kick; in fact, in March of 2015, the picture of John pitching, featured below, was included on mlb.com.
However, this young man is not all about looks; according to ATVL, he had the 12th best season for starting pitchers in the 2016 summer!
The 6-foot-1 senior righthander was arguably the best starter for the Winchester Royals. Over 8 games (7 starts), John went 1-2, 3.66, with a 1.272 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, and 8.5 K/9 in 39 1/3 innings. He also started one game in the playoffs, against Front Royal on July 29, and twirled his best start of the year. He went 8 innings, allowing only 8 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, and struck out 7.
Lollar has seen his usage at Murray State increase each year. As a freshman in 2014, he went 2-0, 4.44 in 21 games, all out of the bullpen. He allowed 34 hits, 11 walks, and struck out 17 in 26 1/3 innings.
As a sophomore in 2015, he pitched in 17 games; 10 were starts and 7 were out of the bullpen. In 51 2/3 innings, he allowed 84 hits, 23 walks, and struck out 26. As a junior in ’16, John went 4-2, 6.53 in 16 games, 7 of them starts. Over 60 2/3 innings, he allowed 78 hits, 23 walks, and struck out 44.
Let’s see what he does this spring in his senior year!
