This is our last hitting category for the minor leagues… but we still have pitchers! Here are the top ten batting averages put up in one minor league season since 2006, 400 at-bat minimum.
| 1 | Collin Cowgill | Covington ’05 | 2011 | 0.354 |
| 2 | James McOwen | Luray ’05-06 | 2009 | 0.340 |
| 3 | Clint Robinson | Harrisonburg ’05-06 | 2010 | 0.335 |
| 4 | John Raynor | New Market ’04 | 2007 | 0.333 |
| Tyler Kuhn | Luray ’06-07 | 2011 | 0.333 | |
| 6 | Clint Robinson | Harrisonburg ’05-06 | 2011 | 0.326 |
| 7 | Tyler White | Haymarket ’10 | 2015 | 0.325 |
| 8 | Jeff Kindel | Covington ’03 | 2007 | 0.317 |
| 9 | Tyson Auer | Luray ’05-06 | 2010 | 0.316 |
| 10 | Ryan McBroom | Haymarket ’11-’12 | 2015 | 0.315 |
Fun list. Clint Robinson on twice, and he joined Collin Cowgill, John Raynor, and Tyler White as a major leaguer. James McOwen, Raynor, Tyler Kuhn, Jeff Kindel, and Tyson Auer are all out of affiliated ball. Ryan McBroom and White joined in 2015- no one joined in 2016.
Has anyone else noticed how many Covington players have been outstanding in the last number of years? Jason Kipnis, Rico Noel, Collin Cowgill…. (in fact, New Market’s Bruce Alger once told me that the same family hosted Cowgill in 2005 and Kipnis in 2006!)
We’ll move on to minor league pitchers next!
