This is an odd occurrence- our #11 reliever, Brett Sasse, from Waynesboro and Nebraska Omaha, was also ATVL’s #7 starting pitcher in the 2015 Valley League season!
Brett has had an excellent two seasons in the Valley. In 2016, he went 2-0, 2.20, with a 0.920 WHIP, 1.1 BB/9, and 6.1 K/9 in 16 1/3 innings pitched. His BB/9 ranks 3rd among all relievers surveyed for this list. In 2015, he went 2-2, 2.77, with a 1.128 WHIP, 0.7 BB/9, and 5.3 K/9 in 39 innings. He walked only 3 batters in 2015, and 2 in 2016. I would say that Brett controls his pitches pretty well.
The Business major redshirted in 2013 at Omaha. In 2014, he threw only 5 1/3 innings. In 2015, he went 0-2, 5.79, with 2 saves, in 28 innings pitched. In 2016, he went 2-4, 8.36 in 37 2/3 innings- in 10 appearances out of the bullpen and 4 starts. He walked 16 and struck out 35.
Brett has received some academic honors, too. He made the Summit League Winter/Spring Honor Roll and “Distinguished Scholars List” in both 2013-14 and 2014-15, and was named to the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence in 2014-15.
Congratulations, Brett!
