#9 Reliever: Brandon Valentin, Front Royal

brandon-valentin-st-thomas-2016-headshotThe 9th best reliever in the 2016 Valley League season is Front Royal’s Brandon Valentin, from St. Thomas!

Erne Valdes’s teammate had an excellent ’16 season for the Cardinals. Overall, he went 0-1, 0.76, with 2 saves, a 0.928 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9, and 6.8 K/9 in 14 games and 23 2/3 innings. The 2nd team All-Valley finished 2nd in ERA among relievers on this list, and 6th in WHIP. He even started a game in the playoffs, and pitched well enough over 6 innings to beat the eventual champs, Strasburg.

Brandon also pitched in the Valley in 2014, but not for the Cardinals- he pitched for another NoVa team, Winchester. For the Royals, he went 1-5, 6.53 in 14 games and 6 starts. He struck out 24 in 31 2/3 innings that summer.

Brandon has also been getting better and better for St. Thomas. In 2014 as a freshman, he went 5-3, 6.98, with 19 walks and 33 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched. He moved to the bullpen in 2015, and went 1-3, 5.19 in 27 games and 26 innings, along with 16 walks and 28 strikeouts. Then, as a junior in 2016, he went 1-1, 2.84 in 21 games and 25 1/3 innings, along with 19 walks and 21 strikeouts.

Congratulations on an excellent summer, Brandon!
