The 5-foot-9 righthander from Shorter University went 2-1, 1.00, with a 0.852 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9, and 9.3 K/9 in 27 innings pitched. He finished 3rd in WHIP and 4th in ERA among the relievers on this list. He started one game in the playoffs for the Cards, and was named 2nd team All-Valley at the end of the year.
In his freshman year at Shorter, Jacob was a two-way player, both batting 71 times and appearing in 18 games on the mound. (He’s listed at “just” RHP for 2017.) He hit 169/298/225 in those 71 AB, and went 4-4, 3.32, with 3 saves, 41 hits, 34 walks, and 52 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings pitched.
