Three former Valley Leaguers have been named to Baseball America’s list of top 50 senior prospects.
Here they are, with current stats (through Saturday, February 24th), plus two others I thought I’d add, since they were drafted in 2017, but did not sign.
#9. Brooks Wilson, RHP, Stetson (Waynesboro 15). Brooks was drafted in the 24th round in 2017 by Texas- he was the highest VBL draft pick to return to school. Even though Brooks started 15 of his 18 games at Stetson in 2017, he is functioning as the closer so far in 2018. In 4 games, he has a 0.00 ERA and 3 saves in 6 1/3 innings, with 1 hit, 2 walks, and 13 strikeouts.
#19. Wade Bailey, INF, Georgia Tech (Harrisonburg 2015). Wade is hitting 290/353/387 in 31 at-bats so far in 2018, with 1 double and 1 triple.
#24. Kevin Woodall, 1B, Coastal Carolina (New Market 2015). Kevin is off to a monster start for Coastal- he’s hitting 323/400/742 in 31 at-bats, with a double, 4 home runs, and 13 RBIs.
And two more for the record:
- Peyton Maddox, C, VMI (Charles Town 2015, Staunton 2016). Peyton was picked in the 33rd round of the 2017 draft by the Giants, but did not sign. So far for the Keydets, he’s hitting 318/400/318 in 22 at-bats.
- And the early leader for coolest name, Cooper Coldiron, INF, Houston (Charles Town 2015). Cooper was a 39th round pick of the Cubs in 2017, but didn’t sign. So far in 2018, he’s hitting 217/357/348 in 23 at-bats, with 1 home run.
These five will be worth watching in 2018!
