Checking In With the Tampa Guys

The University of Tampa, a Division-II school in the Sunshine State Conference, not only usually performs really, really well as a team, but they also sent players to the Valley League on occasion. So far this season, the team is 19-5 overall, and 8-1 in conference. The squad is well on its way to postseason baseball.

Three players on the current team are also doing really well- two of which played in the Valley in 2017, while the other played in both 2015 and 2016. Let’s take a look:

  • Keven Pimentel (New Market 2017) has started 7 games for the Spartans. He’s 6-1, 2.75, with 38 hits, 9 walks, and 38 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings pitched. He went 2-0, 3.75 in 26 1/3 innings for the Rebels. (Keven is a transfer from Miami)
  • Mark Moclair (Front Royal 2017) has pitched in 8 games so far, all in relief. He’s been almost unhittable: 3-1, 0.72, 4 saves, 7 hits, 10 walks, 43 strikeouts in 25 innings. That’s a 15.5 K/9! For the Cards last summer, Mark went 2-2, 2.92, with 46 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings.
  • Connor Crile (Staunton 2015-16) has appeared in 23 of the Spartans’ 24 games. He’s hitting 282/361/424, with 15 runs, 12 RBIs, 6 doubles, 3 triples, and a solid 8/13 BB/K ratio. Connor hit 257/377/442 in 113 at-bats in 2016, but had only one at-bat in 2015. (Connor is a transfer from Central Florida)
