Major League Record Book: Career Saves

I know that the “save” statistic has, in some ways, harmed the game…. but we’ll look at the numbers anyway!

2006-2017
1 Chris Perez Staunton ’04 133
2 Will Harris Staunton ’03 16
3 Tyler Thornburg Winchester ’08 13
4 Chris Devenski Woodstock ’11 5
5 David Carpenter Covington ’04 4
6 Josh Edgin Winchester ’07 2

Just one save will make the list for the foreseeable future…. and it looks like Chris Perez has this one wrapped up for a long time. Will Harris and Chris Devenski are in hte same bullpen- Houston’s- but Ken Giles is the closer there. David Carpenter has signed with the Diamondbacks, but will he make the team? Tyler Thornburg is working back from a shoulder injury, and Josh Edgin signed a minor league deal with Baltimore.

17 Shawn Camp Staunton 12
18 Rich Croushore Harrisonburg ’91 11
19 Jimmy Key Winchester ’80 10
Jared Burton New Market ’01 10

Players need 10 to make this list. And while Chris Perez dominates the recent list, Roberto Hernandez dominates this one. Brad Ziegler is still active, and he may be closing in Miami this summer (if they have any games to close… that’s a joke, relax).
